MORE INFORMATION

Mount Flagon House is detached , architect designed - constructed of cedar wood and local granite, sat in its own mature private gardens, its sheltered position ensures a perfect eco-system for Mediterranean, South African and Australian plants.

There has been a habitation on this site since the 15th century, the former 1960's building was completely rebuilt in 2012 to create a spacious, well appointed, unique modern house for two with many luxury features.

The Mount Flagon area was so named during the 15th century when Henry V111 built a fort on its summit to safeguard the islands. The ruins are now known as Harry's Walls and the surrounding area is very peaceful, by night with so little light pollution, it is the perfect place for star gazing and shooting star sightings.

Mount Flagon House lays at the foot of the Mount: its entrance is located off a quiet lane, a lane which leads to Thomas Porth, just 200 metres away. Thomas Porth is a secluded sandy cove, a perfect bay for sea bathing, near enough to walk back to the house to change and shower. If you enjoy a morning jog the location is also perfect for a refreshing run along the coastal paths.

Continue left from Thomas Porth, following a scenic coastal path to Hugh Town, a ten minute stroll away. Passing Porth Mellon on the way where there is a large sandy beach with facilities for sailing boat hire and kayaking etc.

Hugh Town is our main town on the islands with a choice of shops, cafes, bars, small hotels and restaurants. It is a small bustling town and continuing down the High Street you will arrive at St Mary's Quay. The Scillonian 111 arrives and departs from here and one can catch the regular small boat trips to the off islands, an adventure and treat, a particular hi-light of a visit to our islands.

Turning right from the Mount Flagon House entrance, just 100 metres later you will join the Lower Moors Nature Trail. This is a lovely stroll, stopping at the small lake with two bird hides. An ideal way to spot both local and migratory birds- we do provide binoculars.

At the end of the Nature Trail you will reach Old Town. Old Town has a character all of its own, there are cafe's and a bar. The  long sandy beach is popular for shrimping and at the end of the bay is Old Town Church with Norman origins.

The house itself is an oasis of comfort where everything you would ever need has been thought of, many separate seating and dining areas both inside and in the gardens, whether it's a quiet read from our guest library, in the conservatory - which has an outlook into the gardens, sip a chilled drink beside one of our fountains or possibly a coffee from the Nespresso machine - perhaps mix a cocktail from the bar cabinet or simply laze in bed from which you can gaze beyond the glazed balustrade to the local art collection that feature on the gable end wall that reaches up into the vaulted ceiling.
